Government Art Collection Interview with Ro Robertson

In an interview with the Government Art Collection, Ro Robertson describes their working-class identity, queer spaces and the power of water.
‘In She Moves Out I split the ‘vessel’ like steel shapes into two outer parts and the water takes the centre of the composition filling the central space. I wanted to centre the strength of water; its power to move through, to find a way, despite human disruption. The huge ships, often built for war or temporary commercial gain, are not the enduring strength I’d like to celebrate here. Instead, the work honours the resilience of the working-class people who built them, and the water itself, which, if we care for it, can hold us, sustain us, and carry us forward.’
